SC Permits 'Voluntary' Use Of Aadhaar Cards
Lifting its earlier restriction, the Supreme today permitted 'voluntary' use of Aadhaar cards in welfare schemes that also included MGNREGA, all pension schemes and the provident fund besides ambitious flagship programmes like 'Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojna' of the NDA government.
The social welfare schemes, aimed at reaching to the door steps of the 'poorest of the poor', were in addition to LPG and PDS schemes in which the apex court had allowed the voluntary use of Aadhaar cards.

Militant, Jawan Killed As Troops Foil Infiltration Bid
A militant and an army jawan were killed today in a gunbattle near the Line of Control (LoC) as troops foiled a bid by ultras to infiltrate into Poonch in Jammu and Kashmir from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
Defence Ministry spokesman said army detected some suspicious movement of a group of militants along the LoC in Krishnagati sector at around 1500 hours today.
The army confronted the infiltrating terrorists who opened fire, critically injuring Lance Naik Govind Singh, Defence Spokesman S N Acharya said. Govind Singh died enroute to hospital, Acharya added.
