Mumbai to Nagpur in 10 Hours
The Maharashtra government on Friday announced an expressway project to connect capital Mumbai with its second capital Nagpur.
C M Devendra Fadnavis informed the state assembly that the 800-km long expressway will traverse from Mumbai through Ghoti-Aurangabad-Amravati and touch Nagpur in Vidarbha.
The new expressway will cost around Rs.30,000 crore and will be completed by 2019.
It will slash the travel time from the current 15 hours to just 10 hours between Mumbai - India"s commercial and glamour capital, and Nagpur - the orange capital, situated 860 km apart in central India.
This decision will benefit the people of Vidarbha, Marathwada and north Maharashtra, besides Mumbai, and was in line with the Bharatiya Janata Party-Shiv Sena government"s efforts to take development to the remotest parts of the state.

The apex court on April 9 this year had dismissed Yakub's petition seeking review of the his death sentence which was upheld on March 21, 2013.
Yakub's review petition was heard by a three-judge bench in an open court in pursuance of a Constitution bench verdict that the practice of deciding review pleas in chambers be done away with, in cases where death penalty has been awarded.
The apex court, on June 2, 2014, had stayed the execution of Yakub and referred his plea to a Constitution bench as to whether review petitions in death penalty cases be heard in an open court or in chambers.
Yakub had sought review of the March 21, 2013 verdict of the apex court upholding his death penalty in the case relating to 12 coordinated bomb blasts in Mumbai, killing 257 persons and injuring 713 others on the afternoon of March 12, 1993.

Yakub To Hang Today
Clearing all the legal hurdles, the Supreme Court rejected the sole death row convict in 1993 Mumbai serial bomb blasts case Yakub Memon's last minute plea to stay his hanging when the reports last came in at around 5 am.
With this development, Memon is set to be hanged as scheduled at 7 am.
Earlier, confusion reigned supreme on whether or not Memon would be hanged as scheduled as the Supreme Court was hearing his fresh plea to stay the hanging.
Though the arguments from both sides were completed at around 4.30 am, the three-judge bench of the Supreme Court took some time before rejecting the plea at around 5 am. The length of drop while hanging the death row convict Yakub Memon early will be 7 feet.
The length of drop is the length of slack provided in the rope exactly from the curve of jaw below left ear.

Nation Salutes Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam
The powerful and the commoners jostled to offer their last respects to late A P J Abdul Kalam 28 Jully as President Pranab Mukherjee, P M Narendra Modi and leaders cutting across political divide led the nation in paying homage to a leader who rose from humble origins to occupy the top office.
Long queues of people, especially school and college students, were seen through the day at 10, Rajaji Marg residence of Kalam in Lutyen"s Delhi waiting for their turn to have a last look at the mortal remains of the person who had asked them to dream big and came to be hailed as the "People"s President".
President Pranab Mukherjee paying his last respect to former President APJ Abdul Kalam at his residence at Rajaji Marg in New Delhi on Tuesday. Vice President Hamid Ansari and Prime Minister Narendra Modi are also seen.

Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, former President of India, Dies in Shillong
Former President of India and renowned scientist APJ Abdul Kalam died after he was hospitalized in a very critical condition at a private hospital in Meghalaya's capital Shillong on Monday.
Kalam 84, arrived at the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Shillong, at 6pm to deliver lecture to post graduate students of the institute.
He reached Shillong by road from Guwahati. He was supposed to addressed the students till 10.40pm on the same day.
After he reached IIM-Shillong, he collapsed around 7pm while delivering lecture to students and was rushed to a nearest private hospital.
An IIM-Shillong faculty said that Kalam has been visiting the institute for last three years to address the students. This year it was Kalam's third visit to IIM-Shillong.
Kalam was the 11th President of India and held the post from July 25, 2002 to July 25, 2007.
He was a renowned scientist and is considered to be the main brain behind India's space launch vehicle (SLV) and missile programme.
Assam and Nagaland governor, PB Acharya said that the nation has suffered a great loss in the demise of Kalam. Acharya said that Kalam is not only a former president but also a highly respected scientist internationally.
The government has declared a 7-day national mourning as a mark of respect for the departed former President.

16 Years Since Kargil, Army Still Short of Ammo
Union defence minister Manohar Parrikar along with the Army Chief General Dalbir Singh Suhag, the Vice Admiral P Murugesan, and Chief of the Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal Arup Raha paying homage at Amar Jawan Jyoti on the occasion of Kargil Vijay Diwas.
The 16th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas was observed here with a solemn ceremony that brought back memories of the bravehearts who sacrificed their lives to lead India to victory in the 1999 conflict against Pakistan.
The proceedings here in Ladakh region of Jammu and Kashmir began with a solemn wreath-laying ceremony at the Drass War Memorial led by the army"s Northern Command chief Lieutenant General D.S. Hooda.

Indian Born Engineer's Roti Maker Gets $ 11.5 mn Investment
An Indian-origin engineer in Singapore who invented an automatic one-minute roti maker machine seven years back has now fetched a second round of investment of $11.5 million from venture firms.
Pranoti Nagarkar-Israni, a mechanical engineer from the National University of Singapore, came up with a prototype for an automatic roti maker which won her the "Start-Up Singapore" competition in 2009.
She later floated a product design company called Zimplistic with her husband to promote the roti maker brand called Rotimatic.
Maharashtra government is in favour of awarding capital punishment to those who indulge in adulteration of food, milk and medicines, the state Legislative Council was informed today.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said that The government is of the view that there should be strict punishment awarded for adulteration, That is why we have included Section 302 (Murder) against the perpetrators of the Malvani Hoonch incident, The government is positive on capital punishment in such cases and we will consult the Centre amending the existing law.
Gurunath, Kundra Banned From All Type of Cricket Activities
Star-studded Chennai Super Kings, two-time champions in the IPL, and Rajasthan Royals were on Tuesday suspended from the cash-rich cricket league for two years for the betting activities of their key officials Gurunath Meiyappan and Raj Kundra during the 2013 season.
Meiyappan, a former Team Principal of India Cements Ltd (ICL)-owned franchise CSK and Kundra, co-owner of Jaipur IPL that runs Rajasthan Royals (RR), were suspended for life from any matches conducted by BCCI.
Seen as a clean-up of the mess following the worst scandal that broke out two years ago in the popular cricket league.
